Applied Visual Arts
The direction I was drawn to stemmed from years and years of being fascinated, consumed by creativity, and an overwhelming desire to see new places. Last but not least, an opportunity to genuinely explore the world of photography further. I have been intrigued by the Red Zones since the day they were deemed so. Salvage is not a concept to me, it is a lifestyle, an active choice to repurpose for the greater good, or aesthetic. This year’s projects have been created with various notions of the after-effects of 2010/2011. Not to dwell on, but to bring to light, the realities of what occurred to people’s homes and livelihoods, and how now, we are left with wide open spaces, and sometimes the inability to visualise what was there, versus what was left behind. It has been important to document the Red Zones in my own way; not focus on what was, but rather what is there now. Throughout my artistic journey, I have relished in sculpture and photography. It has spanned 17 years thus far and will continue on for many more.
