Applied Visual Arts
My artwork delves into the concepts of ‘Home,’ impermanence, and the natural world, exploring their physical and emotional dimensions. Utilizing the mediums of print and paper sculpture, I have been abstracting elements like mountains, atmosphere, maps, and horizon lines, with the goal of capturing the intricate and often subconscious emotions intertwined with the notion of Home. I have been specifically examining the deferences between my current home in New Zealand and my native state of Colorado. This body of work is primarily crafted from paper, chosen for its fragility and minimal ecological impact. Over time, I’ve come to appreciate how its limitations have significantly enriched my creative process. I have been manipulating and exploring this singular material, with the aim of conveying the essence of the natural world and highlighting its unique qualities. I use color to intensify the emotional quality of each work by drawing from the atmospheric palettes of both New Zealand and Colorado. Through this process, I have become increasingly attracted to the horizon line and its ability to solidify our present state on this earth. My overarching objective is to create art that remains open to interpretation while firmly rooted in an emotional place.
