Over my time at Ara, I have learnt to be a multifaceted artist; experimenting with alternative ways of creating and thinking. My focus this year has been eco-feminism. In essence, eco-feminism sheds light on the intersectional exploitation of women and nature. To address environmental destruction means to address social injustices, including the degradation of women. It challenges value-hierarchical ways of thinking and frameworks like capitalist patriarchal perception. Through this subject choice, I aim to unpack the dualities that have subordinated women to men and nature to civilization, seeking to create a more equitable and sustainable world. These multi-media pieces specifically explore how capitalism and patriarchy have directly impacted the sustainability and safety of women's health products. Why is women’s general health seen as so taboo? My artworks delve into the complexities of womanhood, illuminating the often overlooked aspects of women's health and sexuality. As well as examining the objectification and fragmentation of women’s bodies in consumable content. I intend to cleanse the burdens of shame, guilt, and societal expectations that women bear simply for possessing a uterus. I hope to empower women and dismantle the taboo that presents menstruation as impure and dirty.
