My time at Ara has been really enjoyable. I’ve been lucky enough to have a great class and tutors. During my time here I’ve grown as a person and I’m starting to figure out what makes me passionate as an artist. That’s why I decided to base my project around feminism and femininity.

With my project I aim to show what I wish I had seen in magazines growing up. I wish I had magazines that told me that it’s ok to be authentically you. The main idea of my project was to show how the people around me have learnt to ignore and drown out the kind of messaging we receive from magazines about how we should dress, eat, look and age. I aimed to show this idea by having collages of magazine clippings behind my own images to give the concept of rising above and ignoring that messaging and continuing to just be who you are. I think it is really important for everyone to feel seen, heard and represented in the media.

In the future I want to help people to feel like they are being represented in a positive way.
