Sexism and sexual harassment have been rife within the music industry for decades now, and society has turned a blind eye to how women are treated within the music community.

More than 70% of women in the music industry have experienced discrimination, disadvantage, and harassment based on gender, and as one of the few industries with a leading male dominance, behaviour is excused due to an existing “boys club” mentality, a power imbalance, and a lack of diversity.

Changing Track NZ is a campaign/training program created for people within the music industry who are used to the culture it holds.

Changing Track NZ aims to reframe the roots of sexism and harassment in New Zealand’s music industry by equipping people with the skills and resources they need to build a safer nightlife, empowering people with knowledge and confidence in a way that makes them want to take part in changing the culture. This will enable a safe and supportive community where looking out for one another and stepping-in is the norm, and sexism and sexual assault isn’t.
