Mereana Nihoniho

Applied Visual Arts

This year I’ve centered my work around moths and the different ways in which people view them. I think they’re fascinating and highly underrated creatures that people don’t know enough about.

Their transformation is what originally inspired me for this final project. I did, however, try to take a less typical approach to the theme.

I decided to go for an illustrated storyline revolving around a girl and the transformation she goes through once society has rejected her for things out of her control. In her world, everyone is born with the same pair of moth wings. Everyone except for her.

I used a slight experimental mix of both digital and traditional media for this work. I’m more inclined to drawing in my artistic practice and wanted to utilise that with the digital portion. I also enjoy watercolour, so it’s how I chose to make the common moths.

I’m always excited to improve and evolve with and during my art and trust me when I say I did a lot of evolving during this process.
