Through my internship with Caitlin Crisp I was challenged to design a collection from the brief, ‘Where they dream to be.’ I used my own situation as a way of interpreting this by designing my ultimate wardrobe, similar to how Caitlin designs. This included focusing on what life looks like and what is happening at the time, for example clothing that would accommodate first job interview out of fashion school, first weekend off, graduation dress etc.
I designed this spring/summer collection for 22/23 with this in mind. I was drawn to the organic, floaty, layered shapes of the lighting in the studio and looked at utilising an array of textiles and manipulation techniques to mimic the feel, creating unique textures. This collection is intended for the New Zealand summer, for a woman living in the city where her life takes her from events in the weekend to the beach on her day off and everywhere in between. The neutral palette is calming and soft with a contrasting pop of colour to fulfil the brief. Experimenting with fabric manipulation allowed for a unique and special outcome for this collection.
