For my final project I wanted to create character illustrations, motion graphics and concepts for a gacha game that challenges the stereotypical Magical Girl genre.
I love creating things and combining motion with illustration, so I used this project to strengthen my artworks by learning techniques and challenging myself with new programs and the techniques I used in the course. I’ve always loved convoluted plots and wanted to create a concept for a game with the topic of ‘self-censorship’. I’ve used characteristics of the superhero genre to create characters who ‘transform’ into different versions of themselves as their magical counterpart: be it someone who they want to be or a facade, they all fit different meanings of the topic.
Being able to meet like-minded people and learning together in this course has been an amazing experience. I learned a variety of skills in art, illustration and motion graphics, and used them to create my final project and improve my work throughout the course. I hope to work in character illustration and motion graphics in the future, on games that I enjoy.
